Glossary of Digital Politics and Society | E-BOOK

The Glossary of Digital Politics and Society is a concise, critically grounded compendium of the concepts that are shaping democracy in the digital age. The volume comprises a total of 83 entries, contributed by 39 authors from across Europe. The purpose of the volume is to provide a comprehensive overview of the key vocabulary in the field. In doing so, it covers a wide range of topics, including algorithmic governance, algorithmic bias and data-driven campaigning, as well as digital democracy and civic participation. Drawing upon a range of disciplines, it provides a coherent reference point in a field where
key terms are often used inconsistently.
Rather than static definitions, each entry combines a clear definition with context. This includes the term’s theoretical origins, main debates and controversies, and relevance for democracy. It also includes recommended further reading. The volume demonstrates how innovation and exclusion, participation and surveillance, and transparency and manipulation are intertwined.
The glossary can be regarded as an accessible resource for students, as well as a valuable source of conceptual clarity for researchers, policy-makers, journalists and civil society practitioners. It supports interdisciplinary dialogue and informed public debate. Edited by Michał Jacuński, Marco Lisi, and Elżbieta Szulc-Wałecka, it is published open access under the COST Action RELINK² (CA23114) by Wrocław University Press.
